Prof. Ar. UK Bhoobalan is an architect, urban planner, educator, researcher, mentor, speaker and writer whose professional journey spans more than four decades across architecture, design, education, urban development and business consultancy.
EDUCATION AND DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
He completed a seven-year integrated architectural education in the former USSR and received a Gold Medal for his thesis, The Temple of World Religions. His multidisciplinary education brought together architecture, engineering, art, graphics and philosophy, shaping his approach to design, research and the relationship between people and space.
ARCHITECTURE ACROSS GEOGRAPHIES
Since 1983, his professional work has encompassed projects across diverse sectors, geographical regions and climatic conditions. His international experience includes India, Russia, Europe, North America and Southeast Asia, including professional experience in New York City.
He undertakes projects of varying scales and types, supported by multidisciplinary teams with expertise in innovative design, BIM and advanced software, material selection, budgeting, technical coordination, site supervision and construction execution. The focus is on quality, cost control and timely delivery, with the capability to coordinate projects across international locations
ACADEMIC LEADERSHIP AND MENTORSHIP
In India, he has served as Principal of architecture and planning institutions. He has also served as Dean at Linton University College, Malaysia, and contributed to international architectural education through teaching and mentoring programmes.
He has taught and guided students from Russia, the USA, India, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, Africa, Australia, Singapore and other countries. A recipient of a Best Teacher Award, he has nurtured more than 2,000 students, many of whom have graduated and established professional careers worldwide.
Known for his energetic, approachable and supportive nature, he encourages students and colleagues to develop their ideas through creative thinking, detailed planning and practical execution.
PROFESSIONAL AFFILIATIONS AND ACTIVITIES
His professional affiliations include the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Mumbai, the American Institute of Architects (AIA), USA, FIoV and the Institution of Engineers (India), Tamil Nadu State Centre (IEI TN). He is an NCARB ARE–NYS candidate and a qualified Russian-language teacher.
His professional interests and activities extend to green buildings, GRIHA, civil engineering, interior design, Vastu architecture, design competitions, jury activities and allied disciplines.
RESEARCH, WRITING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT
His work includes research, speaking, writing and mentoring on architecture, cities and design. He has contributed articles to leading newspapers on urban development and புதிய சென்னை | NEW CHENNAI, a vision for future-oriented city creation.
His engagement with rainwater harvesting initiatives and the concept associated with the inception of Samathuvapuram reflects his broader interest in sustainable development and socially responsive planning.
